Culling Cows

    Hi all,
just looking for some opinions on what to do with in-calf cows at this time of the year which you would rather not have around over the winter.
My father is of the opinion to use a product like estrumate, abort the calf and then feed the cow well for a few months to build up condition and then send cow to factory.
To be honest it all sounds a bit laborious and unnecessary and I was just wondering what others would do in this situation? I'd be happiest if the cow and unborn calf swiftly left the farm but where's the best destination? There's about 4 cows like that which could be culled due to being over 10 yrs of age.

    Kind regards.

Ow long in calf are they? What sort of condition is on them? Why not just bring them to the mart as in calf,

They'd be no more than 4 months in calf... average condition.

Estrumate should not be used beyond 2.5 months iirc?

Is there any reason other than age?, you'd assume a jan calving cow would be profitable enough so would get a good bit of interest in mart or calve her down off load calf early and fatten her at grass?

Products do have different recommendations but roughly it will work up to 4 months.

What breed are they? What are they in calf too? What have they got on them?
