I got this today and there are no instructions on it even though it's boxed.

    This is the product....http://www.outdooradventurestore.ie/products/sleeping_bags/matresses_,_pillows/flocked_airbed_single-2635.html

Important that I get an answer on this as the trip is coming ever closer.

    Thanks.

I looked online and couldn't find a definitive answer. That said, if I had to guess, it appears to me that a pump is not necessary.

The people who work in those outdoor shops try out the gear that they sell, so they should know the answer to your question. I'd suggest that you should ring the Outdoor Adventure Store and ask them, just to be sure.

Also, you could try inflating it yourself, without a pump. If that works, great.

EDIT: if all else fails, you can send a message to Vango customer service here.

You got it already so why not try it? Just take it out of the package and unlock any valves you see. If it starts to inflate and is indeed fully pumped up in 1 minute, it's a self-inflating mattress :)

Attempted but there's s chemically smell....plus I don't want to use up all the oxygen in the world...lol :)

    I'll try tomorrow.

it might be self inflating but it is had to tell.

I thought it would say it if it was but some of their camping mats are and it does not say it either

Im not sure where the confusion is. It seems fairly obvious you need to pump it up. It tells you the inflate time is 1 minute and doesnt mention anywhere that it self inflates. Logic would tell you it requires you to pump it up. If it was self-inflating it would surely tell you as it would be a key selling point and feature. Besides is it not only the thin mats that are self-inflating? Ive personally not seen a thick self-inflating air bed.

My logic tells me the opposite :)

It tells you the inflate time is 1 minute. How could they possibly know how fast I pump or what pump I use? It must mean the thing pumps itself up. In 1 minute.

That is a good point right enough. But have you seen any airbeds that thick that self inflate? How would it even be possible considering the amount of pressure required to force air to make a thick airbed firm.

Looking at this double height airbed from Vango with no mention of a pump, they specify it inflates in 3 minutes. Yet it also shows a picture of the valve where it certainly at least looks like the connection for a pump. I would say this requires a pump, and on that principle the one the OP is asking about would probably need one too.

Quick google shows this airbed needs to be pumped up alright. The description in the linked ad above is therefore misleading.

Here is the double version on Amazon. This description is much better: "can be inflated in 2 minutes"

    Not "inflates in 2 minutes"

Another reason to buy from Amazon is that there are reviews and questions & answers. From the latter on this air bed: "The bed can be inflated by mouth but I wouldn't recommend it. We use a camping pump from Halfords but there are plenty of the same thing avalible on here, just check that it comes with adaptors and one of them will fit."

Which leaves no doubt about what this product is.

Also here is a similar product from Vango, may even be the same model as OPs except a different colour. It also states 1 minute inflation time yet you can see Amazon list products bought by buyers at the same time and they have a rechargeable pump there. Looking at the comments section the person reviewing mentions he used a Coleman pump and that it needed topped up after a couple of days.

OP if you will have a vehicle nearby then you can get a 12V car adapter pump from Halfords right now on sale for only €3. I bought one last week and it worked great.

I inflated it enough with my lungs until it was comfortable to use....doesn't need to be inflated fully at all....it probably took about 2 mins.

I didn't even try inflating it further.....not sure if my back will be burst but we'll see.
