I'll keep it short and relatively sweet.

21 year old Male working full time as a Trainee Therapist with a provisional license.

    Looking for 3rd party/fire/theft on a 2002 1.0L 3 door opel corsa.

Contacted one insurance company and was quoted a staggering 4,700 as a named driver on my parents insurance.

Is this standard pricing? Has anyone in the same circumstances had any luck with relatively not as expensive premimums with any company? If so could you let me know which one?

    My quote was with 123.ie

    Thanks.

Christ! Sorry OP, I don't know what to tell you except ring a shed-load of them. It'll probably take a full day.

Do the sums... dole or emigration may be the smart move.

    Half joking.

You'll see plenty more of those quotes but you may eventually find something around 2.5k. Guessing/hoping you will at least.

I'm 21 (male) working full time paying €1500 per yr on a 1.9 diesel car full licence
Best advice I can give is pass your test asap

Email Rsa to say you need a test soon for work to avoid a long wait

I was thinking that myself! It'll probably be a case of just ringing everyone and seeing what they offer.

I wouldn't have the money to buy a plane ticket with my trainee wages :pac: Thanks!

Beginning to think this myself yeah. Seeming hard to cut a break for those without a full licence. Thank you.

Insurance is not bought off a menu, it's priced based on the individual as well as the car you are insuring and varies from company to company so it's near impossible for anyone to know if it will be cheaper for you that the single quote you have got as prices can be all over the place.

The only way to really know if you got a competitive price is to shop around the various insurance companies and brokers. I have been doing the same most of today myself, there really is no short cut to it. After a few hours of filling out tedious online quote forms and repeatedly giving my details over the phone I finally managed to get a price similar to what I paid last year. Given the amount of "my insurance has increased by 200%" threads on this forum I'm satisfied with my final result. You really have to put the legwork in, no short cuts I'm afraid.

Boxymo (SP?) is one I've seen mentioned a lot on the Learning to Drive forum. They install a tracker in your car, with a GSM sim card to monitor your driving style, speed, acceleration etc etc. It really isn't something I would even consider, but the quotes they give are very competitive. I've seen quotes of sub 1.3k recently being reported. I almost hate mentioning them as I'm against the whole tracker thing, but the cost savings are nuts. So it might be an option.
