UPC 240 and can't browse if I change the DNS

using the UPC supplied ubee -
    login to 192.168.0.1
Basic - Local Area Network - DNS 1 is set to 192.168.0.1 and DNS2 is 0.0.0.0

I want to use google DNS or open DNS
but when I use 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4 or 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 - the router changes but can't browse websites

Any ideas? When I revert to default I can browse again normally

I suspect that upc are shaping traffic via their DNS. When I'm using a torrent client I can't browse at all. Hoping that moving DNS on the router this would prevent upc from shaping.

    Running mac yosemite

Try changing them in OSX and not the router, that'd be the first step.

If that works then you're probably just trying to do too much with UPCs ****e CPE.
