    hi,
ive been finding lots of spiders on my window sills and around windows, also in window vents. Im terrified of spiders. these ones ahve large abdomens and a beige mark on the abdomen. their webs are the common type of web you see and they hang upside down in it. im hoping theyre not false widows??? if so will they come in???

Also in my boiler house last yr i found a weird kind of cocoon hanging from roof, it was white and looked a bit like a chinese lantern whatever was in it was gone. i have a lot of big spider webs in there. having done some research this could be a false widow nest???

Any help would be greatly appreciated :(

i think it was more like the second pic, there was quite a lot of beige markings on it.

what about the awful cocoon in the boiler house???

    thanks for your reply :)

Your cocoon was just a wasp beginning a nest , nothing to worry about , its only if they continue to build you need to do something about it but most of the time they decide to move on without taking it any further than your 'cocoon' stage.

Oh I feel a bit silly now! Thats what it was! Ive never seen one in its beginning stages, only a complete one, thanks for putting my mind at ease!
what kind of spider is the second pic?

No idea I'm afraid, you need one of the specialists on here to turn up, it's what I call a garden spider, but then any spider I see outside is a 'garden spider' :)

It looks very like a Lace weaver or window lace spider. Amaurobius similis

Its called a lace web spider, it can bite and it can hurt but its not common so don't worry about it!

The name is right and they can bite but are actually very common. Every shed and garden in the country has them. Most spiders of that size can bit but spider bites are very rare. Some people react like some react to wasp stings but none are dangerous, despite the headlines and that includes the false widow. We have them in our kitchen skylighhts and they leave us alone.

Mod Note: We have a spider thread so i've moved your thread into it. You can't post pictures until you have made 50 posts, but some of the pictures and comments above may be of help.

    Unless it's radioactive, of course.

Found this fab looking spider hanging out by my kitchen window. Doing a great job catching flies and staying OUT of the house!
