Working permit after student visa?

    Hi,

My boyfriend was here on a student visa for a year which has recently expired. He works p/t in a restaurant and they've offered to apply for a working permit for him. However looking on the INIS website restaurant workers seem to be exempt from working permits.
His boss isn't from Ireland and I'm a bit worried that he doesn't fully understand the working permit paperwork - finding it confusing myself.
Thanks in advance for any replies - I myself think my boyfriend should return home and apply for a working holiday visa, rather than run the risk of not being able to come back to Ireland. Also a few people have mentioned Crosscare so heading into Sackville Place now.

    Thanks again.

Unless he's a head chef, working full time and earning at least €30K, he can forget about a work permit. They also generally won't grant work permits to people who are living/working unlawfully at present.

Thanks Dandelion that was what I was told yesterday as well. Crosscare are very good - very, very busy. The guy said he has people queuing from 8 for a 10 o'clock opening.
