Running routes in Roscommon/Leitrim

I'm going to be based in Roosky for a few days over this weekend and I'm looking for some suggestions of nice routes, preferably off-road, that I can run. I presume there are canal tow paths and the like that people use? I'll have a car so don't mind driving a bit if it means I can avoid the roads. I'm considering trying the new Blueway that links Drumshambo and Carrick and I've enjoyed running in Lough Key before but any other suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance.

I've always enjoyed running in Mote Park, which has a mixture of trails and scenic rural roads. Around 36 kms from Roosky. But I'm generally pretty happy running around any of the Bothrins around Roscommon. Nice quiet, largely flat, scenic running, with just sheep, donkeys and the occasional tractor for company. Have tried to run the canal path (further south) previously, but have found it near impossible, as it was too over-grown, very boggy, with no clear paths. May be better further North. Worth mentioning, Athlone now has a Parkrun, if you fancy something a bit quicker.

There's the woodlands walk in Lanesboro which might be a bit closer...

Just outside Tarmonbarry, down at the Roscommon/Longford border there's a little village called Clondra (or Cloondara on google maps). There's a canal path starting there that goes all the way into Longford town, 16k apparently. I ran a bit of it on a visit recently. Very quiet, just a handful of road crossings.

That looks perfect for a long out and back, thanks. Hopefully I'll get a chance to try out a few of these suggestions over the next few days. I'll be down there from tomorrow until Tuesday.
