I'm looking for a 7 seater, budget about 10k, have had loads of car trouble over last few years and a bit sick of breakdowns and spending money on repairs. What engines are best for this budget?

I went to look at this myself, its a lovely car
    Touran

Dealer said its had a new turbo fitted, so I rang MSL who had done it and they confirmed the work and said it shouldn't be an issue at all.
I'm looking for a car for my Dad, but in the end I think its a bit much for him.

I wouldn't rule out the Citroen Grand Picasso, there is a lot of them on road and seem very reliable. They are nice inside, depends if you like lots of glass and quite roomy. Like most of these type of car there is little room left when the full 7 seats are used..

If you bargain a bit could get this one down close to price. Low mileage

    Or similar from private seller

You get a decent spec and newer car for good money.

The VW Touran are good don't get me wrong but they are overpriced and most of them have a terrible spec in them.

    Other options
Qashqai + 2: A good bit over budget
Peugeot 5008: Again a good bit over budget
Touran: As mentioned but you will go down years and maybe higher mileage to get in price bracket

Those Citroen/Peugeot automatic gearboxes are terrible, very jerky and slow to change gear. Best avoided imo.

Never even noticed it was auto

I would go manual, family member has Peugeot and loves it.....
