Cycling Shoe - Ratchet snapped off

Yesterday I fell off my bike and somehow in the process, the ratchet managed to snap off my shoe. The ratchet itself is grand, it's the screw keeps the ratchet intact with the shoe; that's where the break was. (see photo).

Even though I've had them over two years, the shoes are still in grand condition and still has plenty of wear in them, I'd hate to have to go out and replace them altogether on account of one poxy broken screw. Money is tight so I could do without the expense.

I did go to my local shoe repair shop earlier today in hope they could do something for me but it was in vain. Has anyone on here had a similar problem or does anyone have any ideas as to how I can go about repairing them?

Or should I put myself out of my misery now and abandon all hope?!

Drill it out and add a nice big rivet ?

    As mentioned
Drill out - either retap for a bigger screw OR put a very flat screw through from the back and a nut on the outside !!!
Ratchet may not sit flat but will work for sure

Im trying to u fee stand what the problem is. Does the missing screw hold the ratchet strap in place or does it hold that black piece of rubber/plastic?

The snapped screw holds the black piece of plastic that you insert the ratchet into.

What sort of shoes are they? Maybe if you contacted the manufacturer, they could just send you the required spares to fix it. Looks pretty fixable judging by the photo, though I recently used a broken ratchet as an excuse to buy a new pair of shoes..

The snapped screw holds the black piece of plastic that you insert the ratchet into.

Drill out the hole and rivet the piece back on using a thin washer

I don't know what brand your shoes are, but I know you can buy replacement parts for Shimano shoes for example. Look on sjscycles.co.uk, they're good for obscure parts - not just for shoes, I got a part for a mudguard that broke. Sometimes it's not that cost effective once you add postage but worth a look.

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions guys. I didn't know what the part I was looking for was called until I did a good bit of googling.

    I now know I need this or similar;

Where can I get this in Dublin preferably either in the city centre or finglas? I did go into a hardware store earlier today and showed the guy the link but he didn't have anything for me.

Is it the screw or the thread that is gone?

I had similar when someone cycled into me and there front spokes took my ratchet off, I couldn't get the screw back in but then brought it to my local hardware shop and got one a mm longer and it screwed back just fine, worked great ever since.

Thread/rivet/whatever its supposed to be called- is snapped clean. I was able to remove what was left of it from the shoe last night. So it looks to be fairly straightforward to insert a new one in its place. I went to three hardware shops and two bike shops looking for similar to the link I posted above but to no avail. The hardware stores don't stock threads/flat rivets that small.

Maybe try a dressmaker or similar- they would often fit snap fasteners etc. to garments. Also maybe a shoe repair place- Timpsons or the like.

It's just a t-nut you need to replace the broken one, most hardware shops sell t-nuts, take the screw with you to check for the correct thread.
