Replacement for my Macbook

I have a Late 2008 13-inch MacBook with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor that Im looking to replace. Ive upgraded it as much as I can putting in 8gb of ram and a 250gb samsung 850 EVO ssd.

Im leaning towards going back to running windows as the new model macs are too expensive for their specs. I was looking at the asus zenbook but the 0.8ghz processor is putting me off.

So Im considering buying a laptop with a decent processor and graphics but not necessarily much ram or an ssd and just sticking in what i have in my current laptop.

    Im budgeting around €500-750

Which Asus zenbook were you looking at? I have an older one (coming up on 3 years) and it's fine. Not Macbook quality but it's been adequate. My main gripe has been with driver issues, but I think Windows 10 has actually improved this.

I think your best bet would be to move the SSD across to the new machine so it would make almost any machine lightning fast. You wont be able to move the RAM to the new machine as your RAM is DDR2, and all new machines are DDR3.

Do you have any requirements as far as laptop size? Presumably you're looking for something with a 13.3" screen and with a good battery life?

Just checked there I have ddr3 in this. Looking for something pretty small as I've no need for an optical drive anymore. I was looking at the Zenbook UX305 or possibly UX501.

I got a free upgrade from meteor today and the best spec phone I could get was an iPhone 5c so Im tempted to bite the bullet and get the new model macbook now!

Certainly not a bad option to go for a Mac, but it's a costly option. And my main gripe with Macs these days is the complete inability to upgrade the RAM further down the line... Although I this will most likely be the case with all Macs moving forward.
