Yeah that's him, he had been doing it for years.

Always signed off by saying " I'm johnny lyons"

Think he was a Man utd fan.

The Directors, management and all the staff at 98FM are heartbroken at the death of our dear colleague and great friend Johnny Lyons.

Johnny died suddenly and peacefully at his home in Dublin.

Johnny has been the backbone of our sports team for over 20 years. His distinctive voice and his passion for soccer defined Johnny for so many of his listeners. He was a talented presenter with a deep knowledge and love of sport and his Sunday morning programme ‘Now that’s What I Call Sport’ was a weekly date for so many Dubliners.

Keith McCormack, Chief Executive of 98FM paid tribute to Johnny saying "The entire station is devastated with the sudden passing of a beloved colleague. Johnny, with his larger than life personality, was loved by all listeners and colleagues alike. He was a huge part of the 98FM family and will be dearly missed, we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family at this time. May he rest in peace".

98FM will be paying tribute to Johnny on air over the next few days.

    Jesus. That's a shock.

Ray Foley was taking the mick out of Johnny either yesterday or today.

RIP. He had a great voice for his job, real 'sportsfan' tone to his voice and his enthusiasm for what he loved shone through. Sad news.

I knew Johnny a bit as he drank in my local boozer a few years back. He cost a load of us in the pub a small fortune before Brian Kerr got the Irish job, as he told us that Philippe Troussier was nailed on to get the job according to his source in the FAI. We gave him some stick after that, but he was adamant that the FAI must've changed their minds at last minute.

RIP Johnny, always a sound bloke willing to have a chat about the game.

Damn shame to see him pass, was always very passionate about sport and knew what he was talking about.

And his sign off after every bulletin would cheer you up, "I'm Johnny Lyons"
