thinking of renting a small holding to rear a few cattle for resale or meat product and maybe later progress into rearing more cattle, now here goes i have a little bit of agriculture knowledge i know its not enough but farming is in my blood threw my grandfathers and other relatives, i know if i gave it a try i would do well in it and most likely succeed to some degree and working for my families future and maybe when my kids get older it will secure a job for them that thought drives me more and more towards agriculture. i'm not currently working atm but don't take me up the wrong way i'm not looking for a easy cash flow or way out,i understand in no way is farming easy. i'm wondering if i went to my local enterprise/financial institution looking for some kind of grant would they except agriculture business as a valid reason for awarding me a grant for getting me on my feet. what ye recommend i do for a young lad starting out, how would i go about renting a holding.

No offence but this just a dream/fantasy. If you have around a 100k to start out maybe just maybe it could be something you could do with a full time job.
Since you are unemployed at the moment I presume you don't have this money. The economy is picking up, hopefully you secure a job and can revisit this idea in a few years. Best of luck with it.

Unfortunately AP is right, I'm lucky we have a bit of land enough for a hobby nothing more! You could do what I do, drool over the farms in the country section of the IFJ every week!

But maybe we just don't have the balls to take a risk!! Don't give up on the dream!!

I see an article on today's Country Living section of the Farmers Journal on this subject. The family seem to have taken on an allotment as a first step. I note the man still has full time employment as a paramedic.
