Is there any means to help a person get money for food, school etc...
They are out sick on stress and company will not pay them, their illness benefit will all go on rent...

    See the Community Welfare Officer...

If the ops friend is paying rent of €188 per week, the CWO may not be too inclined to add in supplementary welfare, as if they used the rental supplement guidelines, they'd be well in excess of them.

CWO may suggest they look for alternative accomodation.

They're over €1000 pm for rent, they have a family as well. I'm getting some money together for them this month through some buddies and family..

If they've a family then they should be getting more than €188 per week as they will have dependants.

Did they put in the correct claim?

How can they get alternative accommodation...? They're 7 months in on a 12 month lease.

Don't know what they're getting, only know it's illness benefit....all I know is they're freaking out about rent, food etc.

What they probably need to do is to sit down and see how much benefit in illness benefit they can get and see if they can also get rent supplement their cap can advise them on the rent supplement

Rent supplement is subject to maximum omits though

Also they should note that if they have gotten full salary and illness benefit the past few months the illness benefit is taxable, so if they return to employment they may have an extra tax liability that they may need to budget for

Are they able to claim for FIS? The other alternative is to go and see the SVP...

They can't claim FIS if neither are working. He should be claiming for himself wife and kids. If she's not working could his wife try to get a job? It's unlikely the CWO will be able to help if they're already getting full entitlement except maybe a one off bill payment

Flipping heck....work hard or years, due to illness, loose everything in a matter of weeks.

Sit on your "hole on the dole" for years and get looked after like a king.

Illness benefit is 188 for claimant 124 for spouse and 29.80 per child. If your friend lives in an area where the DSP rent limit matches his rent then he may look for rent supplement.

And rent supplements are available per county/council at http://www.welfare.ie/en/pressoffice/pdf/Revised%20rent%20limits%20June%202013.pdf

THe only part of the country which allows rent of 1000 per month for a family with three children is Dublin excluding Fingal, which is why I asked the county the family were based in.

If the family have been renting for more than 6 months and could afford the rent when they moved in and they do indeed live in Dublin as seems likely then they can still apply for RA

    So looking better then :)

I reckon the OPs friend has just gotten an awful shock at having their pay removed.

It will take a day or two to get over, but then figuring out what benefits are there might help
