Hi, i recently bought a drone on ebay from a guy in spain. When i received it he was after having it shipped from china directly to me. I now have a letter saying i need to pay import duties. Now i understand if i bought it from china that i would have to pay it thats why i purchased it from spain to avoid this... Am i liable for the import duty because it came from china or should i look at it on the basis that i bought it from spain so shouldn't have to pay it?

Can anyone advise on this please.
    Thanks in advance.

Yes, you have to pay import duty for it because it was shipped from China; the fact that the eBay listing was based in Spain is irrelevant.

If the seller specifically said the drone was being shipped from Spain, then you might be able to get some sort of refund from him, but that would purely be between you and him on eBay; customs have no say in this nor any reason to get involved.

Best thing to do is pay the import tax to receive the drone, and either arrange a refund from the seller (if it's an option) or learn from the experience so you don't make the same mistake again :)

Can you link to the auction or another the seller has up. People might be able to show you how to spot dodgy auctions or how to search the feedback.

There is a site www.toolhaus.org which is good for searching feedback. You need the exact ebay user name, "world of drones" shows nothing. I think it still gets ones who may no longer be registered.
