So what your saying is if I sit down all day and smoke........they cancel each other out....

I stretch my quads, hamstrings and shoulders and do roughly 5 hours exercise a week.

I would love one of those treadmill desks, but I wouldn't like to stand all day. I worked behind a bar for about 18 months and standing on the hard floor all night used to cause me a lot of pain. I am never in pain after sitting at my desk all day.

I wish I could stand for a bit in work, even for 15 mins or half hour intervals while workings. I always take the stairs in work, only the lift if I have heavy boxes which is rare. The boss has got into the habit of standing for many of his phone calls cos he tends to be on them for a while discussing things. When he is on the mile he walks around his office. The majority of my phone calls require me to use my computer to check or process things so standing or walking isn't really suitable.

The good standing desks can be adjusted to a standing or sitting level at the touch of a button.

Some bars are starting to get thick (hoseable) rubber mats behind the counter. A lot easier for standing on (concrete for hours is hell), and reduces breakages a lot too.

Adds a little to the clean-up each night, but worth it from what I've seen (admittedly only from the other side of the counter).

Ironically the only exercise I used to get from my desk was when I went for a smoke. Now that I've given up I don't go for smoke breaks so am in danger from sitting down all day, should I start smoking again?....god I feel like one now...I'll resist though

I did want to get one but the owner (my boyfriend) spent more time behind the bar and said he never felt sore after a shift. I am so glad we went out of business in so many ways! :)

yeah been noticing the lifestyle getting very sedentary I now avoid the lift and take the stairs whenever possible. If it isn't lashing down I'll park the car further away so I get a bit of a walk in. When I go to the toilets or to grab some water I'll go to a spot further away (I work in a big building)

For my ten minute break I'll also go for a mini walk and have a chat on the phone. Will also often do the standing up thing too when I am talking on the phone at work. Any excuse to get up or walk is good, we aren't designed to spend this amount of time sitting down
