I bought a 2005 Peugeot 407 3 weeks ago. The previous owner had lost their keys and had them replaced with two standard keys. No remote fob. They basically went with the cheapest option. I went to a well known autolocksmith on the Naas road last saturday and got them to make me a remote fob. The new remote fob works fine. However there is now a problem with the two existing keys. They unlock the door fine but when i open the door the alarm goes off. If i put the key in the ignition the alarm stops. The keys do everything else as they should. the guys in the locksmith seemed to think that this is ok. I wasnt convinced but didnt have enough info to argue with them.

Does anybody have any idea what might be going on? I have a theory that when the previous keys were done the alarm was disabled and that the programming of the new fob has reenabled it. No idea how valid that is.

    Sounds perfectly normal.

Most likely nothing at all was done to the alarm, it was just not armed without the fob.

Lock doors with key: Alarm not armed, can be opened with key.
Lock doors with fob: Alarm armed, opening with key does not disarm so alarm sounds.

That's how it worked on most of my cars.

well when you put it like that it makes sense. I just tried it and it as you both say. If i lock it with the key and then open with the key its fine. it is only a problem if i lock it with the fob and then open with the key. Thanks for the help.
