    Hi all,

I've my first appointment made for wedding dress shopping, just wondering what underwear to wear?

I would love to wear shapewear to nip me in in ALL the places I need!! but is it to norm or not to wear shapewear to appointments?

    thanks in advance

Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. I'm sure they've seen it all at this stage. I accidentally wore a purple bra to one of my appointments because I was running late.

I wore proper shapewear and a nude bra. It was much easier to see what the dresses were like, especially the slinkier styles, that way. Bring a bottle of water and your own heels too!

I always see people wear shapewear on Say yes to the dress and I found the gown, so go for it if it will make you feel more comfortable !

I would say not to wear shapewear, as you will see how the dress really fits if you get me and you might find that you dont need shapewear at all then :)
Another tip I heard was to wear brightly coloured underwear so you can see how see-through the dress is. Happy shopping!

Do you wear shape wear normally? My sister wears it most of the time so she wore it to dress shopping.

I only wear it occasionally so I didn't bother. The main thing is to wear underwear you are comfortable in and you don't mind a stranger seeing you in.

Also different dresses need specific types of underwear/shape wear depending on the styles. so unless you wear it regularly for your first appointments I wouldn't bother. Instead maybe wait until you have a shortlist of dresses and then wear shape wear when you are trying them for the 2nd time.

Nude bra and knicks. Bring high shoes too.

I wore a normal nude bra and pants with minimum vpl (recommend the GAP lace ones) because I wanted to judge "as is" and figured when I'd go back to retry the shortlist I could go with more complicated options. As it turns out finding a more complicated option for a low back dress has proved impossible but that's a different thread:)

It's a tough enough day even with only two shops so I'd consider leaving the shapewear for the first day, unless you wear it a lot, and then when you have your shortlist of 2 or 3 wear it that day. But whatever you feel comfortable in, if you would be more comfortable all nipped in then do that!

Thanks for opinions! I don't normally wear one (do for special occasions when needed for a dress). feeling conscious about dress shopping so think I'll wear one for confidence. Thanks again!

Wear comfortable undies with reasonable support - not necessarily shape wear. Bear in mind these dresses are so structured that you might not need shape wear on the day.

More generally, I would wear a comfortable dress that you can throw on and off in the dressing rooms - and shoes to slip on and off. My first day looking at dresses I went to three shops. If I had had to deal with jeans and lacing up shoes, I would have been wrecked!

I wore shapewear to mine because I'd have felt really self conscious without it, but whatever you'd feel most comfortable in is best. Definitely agree with Arbiter of Good Taste re easily removed clothes. A maxi dress and sandals was what I wore and it was very easy to get on and off. Also bring shoes roughly the height of what you'd intend to wear on the day so you'll get a better idea of what the dress will look like in heels that height. (In my case I wore converse, so flats were grand for me :pac: )

Also bring a bottle of water with you it was recommended on here to me and I really needed it those dresses are tough work after you've put a few on! best of luck with the hunt you'll have a great day

I'd wear whatever can go under the most dresses, i.e. neutral strapless bra ...

Save the shape wear for your shortlist. When your actual dress comes in, wear the shoes and underwear you'll be wearing on the big day so any alterations can be precise.
