    Hi All,

I plan to buy a car sometime over the next few months, budget will be c. €20,000.

Mileage is around 30,000 km / year. Have a child on the way.

Not looking to buy brand new, but something that's no more than a few years old.

I am caught between buying a saloon along the lines of a Mondeo, Superb, Avensis that's a c. 3 years old, or buying a higher quality car like a Merc or BMW that's a little older again.

I just feel that it is hard to beat the quality that's in the Merc/BMW, and that they will not depreciate to the same degree.

    What do you think?

    Thanks

Do you want out right comfort or some power or a good mix of both?
    Manual or auto?

Ultra low road tax or do you consider €750 for a 3.0 litre car good value?

While that would be ideal for 30,000km per year.

Would rule it out for me. Boot is way too small for the space requirements the OP will need.

Personally, I'd search out the best Superb I could find for the budget. 2.0Tdi 140 at least, with Ambition or Elegance Spec. Incredibly comfortable seats (possibly even better then the Volvo), huge amounts of interior and boot space, and just generally a decent place to be (even if it's not much to look at).

I would look at stretching the budget a little and going for the last of the previous generation Audi A6. It's roomy, comfortable and very well specced.

Lol. First world problems these days, me and my 2 sisters were ferried around in a Ford Fiesta when we were young. Now people need huge estates and SUVs for one child. :p :pac:

It's the feckin buggies nowadays! Ours just about fits in the boot of my 5 Series, now we are back to a single - the double buggy wouldn't go in at all, but the ease of throwing it in to the back of an SUV can't be beaten.

What about a Mazda 6. They are a very beautiful car. Very stylish, reliable and well built too. \
