New Beats

I was up in Harvey Normans today. I was looking at their sennheiser amperior where they have one unit discounted to 160 due to it being shop soiled. I read many reviews about how good they were , a few saying their one of the top portable on-ear cans. I tested them with my own Cowon mp3 player and and I found them to be only marginally better than my CALs but horribly uncomf in comparison. Bit disappointed.

So I went round the display and tried the new beats models, both the Beasts solo 2 and the studio. I was gobsmacked how good they sounded - that's what I was expecing from the sennheiser but didn't materialize. The base was fantastic , strong and detailed. Perfect for modern pop tunes. I already own a pair of sony mdr-1r's and although they are good they don't have good bass and I'm happy to have more than one set of cans that suits certain genres.

The thing was - the Beats display units were hooked up to it's own audio source ! The cables from them disappeared into the back of the display. I couldn't test them with my own player to see if the good sound still stood up! If they would sound that good or almost as good with my portable player I'd defiantly be saving up for the black studios !

So anyone have these latest Beats models and how they going for you ?

EDIT: Found out the very comfy studios have noise cancelling built in and that you can't turn the cancelling off, and you to charge them up or they won't work at all. That's defiantly off the list !

Why buy Beats when you can buy literally ANYTHING else?

I lost my trust in Inner Fidelity when he started buying into the Neil Young/PONOS snakeoil.

As I said in the OP they sounded better to me than the sennheiser amperior, a headphone considered to be the TOP on ear portable. And if nothing else they were immeasurably more comfortable.

New solo 2 are actually nice headphones but I can't see how you found them better than the amperiors (provided they were authentic).
