Ford Focus Mk1 clutch change. Do I need a new clutch pipe too? Mechanic thinks yes?

I dropped the car off (2001 Focus 1.4) at the garage this morning.

He called me back 30 mins later and said apparently I need a "clutch pipe". €200 from the ford dealer.

So on top of clutch kit plus concentric slave cylinder, a new clutch pipe must also be fitted.

    Is this right?

I think he may have gotten confused with a little warning leaflet in the slave cylinder box. Apparently for the Ka, some Fiestas and Puma you may need to install a new hydraulic pipe due to an update in design of the slave cylinder which is not compatible with some older version of the pipe.

I don't think the Focus is affected by this. In all the research I've done in the run up to this clutch change, not one forum on the whole internet mentioned this clutch pipe/hose. Even official clutch manufacturer catalogs have no mention of this (they do mention a pipe change for Ka, Puma and Fiesta though)

    What do you think?

    Thanks

There should be no need to change the pipe once the correct slave cylinder is used.

The slave cylinder changed at the end of 2003 so yours will definitely be the older type.

Sounds like he broke the pipe.

Car wasn't moved. He just opened the bonnet.

I think he just got a bit confused with the leaflet. To be honest it wasn't that clear.

OK in case anybody has the same query here's the update:

The mechanic was able to fit the new clutch without a problem. No need to buy a new hydraulic line.

For the Fiesta, Puma and Ka, a new hydraulic line may be needed if it's a pre - 2000 car. Ford sell these for effing €200. But Quinton Hazell make them, and can be bought for around €50 online.

    That's all folks. Thanks.
