External mouse problems

Hi all, I have a problem with my mouse on my laptop. I plug in the mouse and it works fine but after 15-20 minutes the mouse stops working. If I plug it out and back in, it still doesn't work. It will work again if I turn off the laptop or if I put the laptop into hibernate. Can anyone help me please?
