Bank errors should I be compensated?

    Hi guys,

I ran a successful sub-contracting company for years and was happily weathering the economic storm when out of the blue the main contractor I was working under refused to pay me; I was stopped in my tracks.

I had an excellent work history and was asked would I work directly for the land owner as they were kicking the main contractor off site. I did not have the funds to carry out in its entirety such prestigious works but spoke to my local bank who said they would bankroll the project as they knew the land owner well and knew there would be no problem with payment.

Some days later I was contacted by the bank to say they were not in a position to fund my work project and gave no reason for their refusal.

On that note I obviously was unable to carry on with the work and in the months to follow my business went into free fall to a point were I had to engage the services of an insolvency practice. I went out of business and became a PAYE/PRSI employee.

To cut a very long story short I got a telephone call out of the blue on Friday from my local bank to say I would be receiving some correspondence in the post. I didn't know what they were talking about as I had ended all relations with them when I went out of business.

This morning I am in receipt of said correspondence. They tell me that an error was made to refuse me credit as they had been incorrectly entering non payments on previous loans I had with them and this was reflected on my ICB report. The errors were made by an ex employee. I received no apology.

I am certainly annoyed, frustrated and have a mixture of emotions.

Should I seek some form of compensation for the loss of business or am I wasting my time?

This is something you need to engage a solicitor for, you won't get advice here (its against the rules)
