Massey Ferguson 4255 Power Shuttle Problem

Hi I am hoping someone can help me out please with a tractor issue I am having. I have a 00 Massey 4255 2wd. it has the 12x12 shuttle gearbox. The problem is that when I put the tractor in gear sometimes the power shuttle (forward reverse lever) does not engage and the tractor will not move. This has been getting worse, I can fiddle around with the lever and gears and it will eventually move but it is going to let me down when I really need it. I would be very grateful if anyone has any idea what could be causing this or how I might fix it. Thank you

    Is it 12 X 12 manual shuttle ? All the power shuttle's are 24 X 24.

hello thanks for reply, it must be 12x12 manual shuttle im not that up with them il be honest. it has one gear stick and with ur foot clutch u select high low or medium and 1 2 3 4 R. you then have to put the shuttle into drive or reverse the prob is sometimes the shuttle does not engage in either forward or reverse

Take out the floor and check linkages as I think them 42s have selectors on top of gearbox....check for wear/something stupid/loose!!

    Maybe need adjustment??

Is clutch breaking drive....clutches are soft in them

The shuttle giving bother in them is a known problem at around 2500 hours ish. Neighbour has one and had to get his fixed in garage. The parts I think cost very little but half the tractor has t b taken apart apparently and ran him into near €1000.
Greasing all the linkages regularly helps apparently t make it last longer.

Greasing any machine regularly will make any machine last longer imo.

The linkage to the hand shuttle is probably broken or damaged. Take off the cover on the console left side I think and check.
If I remember correctly there is a hard spice type joint in there and the pins or joint can ware and break. Done ours a few time, but can't remember specifics with out having a look.

Also the bottom of the gear stick can break under the cab making it hard to change gears.
A tidy bit of welding usually cures it.

    Udder than that, she's buggered!!
