    Hi all,
I have a 2010 2L D4D avensis and recently it has started to misfire and chug when driving. It is particularly noticeable from approx 1200rpm-2200 rpm but the funny thing is it doesn't appear to happen all of the time. For example, after starting cold in the morning it will not happen for the majority of my 25 minute commute to work (mostly main road with some city traffic for the final 7 mins 10 mins approx. But then in the afternoon, it happens virtually every time on way home from work.

The car will still accelerate through it, albeit at a slower rate and with some chugging. Any ideas on what it might be. The car is well able to rev to high revs and stay up so I doubt it is the fuel filter or caused by fuel starvation (I don't do it often but was advised to do it the odd time to keep the dpf clear as I generally drive quite economically and use 5th and 6th gears alot.

Any ideas on what it might be?

Could be some sort of intake vacuum leak, could be many things. The best thing to do is scan for DTCs.

Thanks for the responses guys, a mechanic friend of mine suggested checking the EGR valve first to see if it might be blocked somewhat. Hopefully it's not too big if a job to get at the EGR valve.
