Failure of hard disk

Hi, I hope this is the right forum.
Basically last night my laptop (Toshiba Satellite) unexpectedly told me to 'backup my files immediately, and then to contact my computer manufacturer to replace or repair the hard disk.'
I've had this laptop for under a year so I'll be bringing it back to the store in two days time.
My question is; is this a hard job to fix? And my laptop still seems to be working fine, can I still use it until I bring it to the store without further damaging it?

    Thanks

Did you do a backup as it said? sounds like the HDD could fail at any time so make sure you have a backup on an external HDD or elsewhere (online, usb drive etc). If you return it they will no doubt wipe and reinstall the OS after the repair/replacement which will leave you without your data :eek:

whats the model number/name? Did you happen to take a pic of what it said? Depemding on whether you had the OS disks and say they sent a replacement HDD it may be doable to replace it but I suspect the shop will want it returned to the manufacturer who will then do the necessary to fix it

Good Bring it back to the store ASAP and see what they say. Probably will need to send it off to the manufacturer for repair. don't let them fob you off by saying you need to contact the manufacturer - they need to do it for you.

You will be without it for a while though. Also get any keys for software that you purchased so that you can reinstall when you get the repaired latop back
