I've decided not to return to the dealer who had the Nissan Note we looked at for my dad last week.
Still keeping an eye out for a Note, but I've also decided to cast an eye at the Honda Jazz and Fiat Panda.
Panda has a nice elevated driving position which my old man would love. And with our budget, it looks like we could get 2013 and maybe even 2014.
The Jazz looks to fit the bill also, plenty of room, tho not the most elevated driving position, however it is still a little 'van like', which is a requirement.
Its also far better inside than a Note imho.

Heres two that caught my eye:
    Panda

    Jazz

Opinions on the models in general, and the specific cars above would be very much appreciated. As in price, reliability, pros, cons etc.
Also, re. the Panda, are the dealership (tractamotors in blanchardstown) good to deal with?

    Thanks.

Maybe look at a Hyundai ix20 or Kia Venga

Looking for petrol and budget is 10k or thereabouts, cant see any venga's that fit the bill.
ix20 is not in any way van like, so wouldn't be a runner.

Ix20 is pretty much the same dimensions as the Jazz.

Just to be clear, it's not the i20

Anyway, there aren't any in budget apart from some autos for sale near the airport that I wouldn't touch.

Of the 2 listed, I'd have the Jazz, or another note.

Yep, ix20 is what ive looked at, very few in my budget, none from dealers. Was in a jazz today, it seems more like a van, tho ive not been in an ix20 yet.

You can't go far wrong with a jazz to be fair.

The rear seats are very handy, have the same type in my civic, they fold up as well so you can put stuff standing up on the floor up to the ceiling

My old man has driven vans all his life, so hence the need for something 'van like' Hes retired but still habours notions of doing bits and pieces, God love him!
What do you think of the Jazz Ive linked above? Its a private sale which Id rather avoid, just so the old man has a bit of a warranty and so on, but it looks a good price from what ive see, and a good spec too.

It's def 1 Irish owner anyway, but is a UK import.

Seller appears to be the pastor in the Waterford baptist church.

Yep, I called earlier and he said it was his father who owned it first.
Cant beat a man of the cloth as a previous owner haha
Price seems fair enough, allowing for a bit of a haggle.

Is the car local to you?

Nope, live in Dublin myself, but in Waterford this weekend for the Sean Kelly cycle, so have a chance to check it out then.

Ah right, usually I'd say do a car check before travelling

I don't know why berlingos are like for reliability, but the seated position looks high, or similar, the partner or kangoo?

The Skoda Roomster is another one that is van like but they are not very pleasant to look at or sit in.

Yeah, they are ugly as sin, and seem to be fairly high priced foe what they are.
Yeti would be a nice choice but my budget wont stretch.

Seem to be gone from the skoda ireland site. It was based on the last generation Fabia anyway so probably poor sales could not justify making a new one. I'd say anything left is just old unsold stock.

I seem to remember it being on a brochure that came in one of the papers. Think it was when they were doing free satnav, it was there then, think it had a facelift.

@colm_mcm - I did a motorcheck finance check on the Jazz that's for sale privately and been imported, and it all came back fine, so I'm happy enough to proceed to view it. Anything else to be concerned about?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,881 ✭✭✭terrydel

Right, I've checked this car out on motorcheck and its all come back fine.
Based on my limited knowledge, and internet search comparisons, the price looks good.
    What do you experts reckon?
    Jazz

Only downside is its a private sale for me, and as I'm buying for my old man, it would be better to get the security of a dealer sale, but cant always have everything.

Dont know about the price, could be ok, havent been comparing
Space looks plenty, seats fold flat which I consider a good thing, looks alright inside.
Any idea what the fuel economy is like?

I don't know about the newer models but the 2007 version can be quick a bumpy ride for passengers in the rear. Might be something to check out if you'll be going over speedbumps regularly.

Saw a jazz today, looks smaller than I thought, didnt look much bigger than a Micra, maybe slightly smaller than a Note.
It's possible its deceptive of the space inside, as how you can fold seats can seem to make the available room bigger.
