More Lidl cycling gear next Monday 24th August.

Might get the long sleeve jersey and the gloves and socks.

Does anyone know if the shorts and lycra leggings are any good, do they have a decent chamois or not?

As far as I remember the track pump isn't supposed to be great, you're probably better off with then one you've ordered!

Mine lasted two years eventually the gasket between the handle and body gave up not bad for the price though.

Mine is still going after two years. Your mileage may definitely vary, but worth a punt at that price.

    Yes they are quite cossie!
Just on the bib shorts they are ok for short to medium distances but after about 2 to 2 1/2 they get uncomfortable fairly quickly.

I've done 5+ hours in them with no bother having said that they are generously coated with sudocream ðŸ˜႒

Are wet pants going out of fashion? I've waited and waited and finally gave up and got some delivered from amazon earlier this month.

Haven't seen any kinda wetpants in lidl specials in ages. Running or cycling.

I'm with you both here, I've done some good mileage and hours in some ~ but found others to be hit & miss.

Tbh if one is chasing after a budget pair I'd suggest Halfords. They're slightly more expensive but far, far better.

Btw my winter cycling glove has been an Aldi/Lidl (can't remember which) pair which I've been using since 2008.

Like waterproofs? Aldi have had cycling waterproof over trousers the last three Autumns. It's normally around September they have them in, with their winter gear - I use them and their overshoes on my wet commutes.

bought my first pair of lidl bib shorts in the last sale and i wasn't really impressed. they are very short compared to other bib shorts i have and i look like george micheal in a 80's music video with them on, even though they are large size. padding is ok and they are cheap.

i have 2 pairs of there 3/4 length shorts and i like them. i use them for spring/autumn. will be buying some of the winter gloves for a spare pair

I've had a couple of different aldi/lidl padded shorts and longs over the years, and none of them were fit for use for me. Chamois was enormous and the material was too thick. They're variable.

Mine was okay for a couple of months, then started acting up and I binned it

same, and i've seen multiple others go the same route. appreciate some may have had them work, but not worth the risk IMHO

The last lot of the Aldi bib shorts were ok in my experience. Fit fine, and I've done the guts of 2 hours in them.

I haven't been doing very long spins up to now (that's the next plan) but the Aldi Performance Bib Tights (the ones with the reflective pattern on the thighs) have done me grand up to 40km spins and were grand on the commute. They weren't that cheap though compared to what you can get in decathlon though iirc (unless you sit it out until they're reduced).

One thing I don't get with Lidl is the obsession with the naff patterns/ makey up branding on the cycling jerseys/ gillets. Can they not just go plain?

One thing I always do with Aldi/Lidl purchases is keep the receipts because they are really cool about returning items that break and giving refunds. Often no questions are asked, if they see its broke the staff refund without hassle in my experience. I'd say Aldi/Lidl put the manufacturers on the hook for any returned items which means they'd prefer keep the customer happy and coming back rather than refusing a refund for a broke item and losing customers over it.

Get yourself down to the gym :D

The track pump is grand and as mentioned above there's a no quibble warranty on it. Its cheap and cheerful. Sure you can buy better but sure that's the case with everything some people love the aldi shorts some love castelli. Both do a similar thing.

Anyone have any idea if the shorts will come in black too or will they all have the blue yoke on the sides?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,085 ✭✭✭shaka

Never found the shorts any good , really poor to be honest . Gloves fine, socks very good , pump lasted about two months. Rain jackets worked but very sweaty .

Mine too. Only this year the cuff tore from being pulled on and I have over 400 days commuting in that time. Quality glove.

Has anyone tried their aerosol chain cleaner? I've used the muc-off version and it's great but far too expensive.

I love their socks. Base layers are also very good. better than some I've paid 5 times the price for.
the race packs aren't bad @ €10. yes they can be got only cheaper but you also need to buy a few things to make up the delivery or pay for it. handy to walk in and pick one up for €10.

when i first started cycling i got a pair of aldi bib tights, then they done the performance line a while later, picked them up to, never had an issue with them until buying a good pair. if its all you've ever used they are good, once you move onn from them you wont go back
