Disconnecting water on unpaid bills

Comments

    Hi,

    Thanks for your query.

The Water Services Act (No.2) Act 2013 does not allow customers to be disconnected for not paying their water bill. Irish Water will engage with customers to understand the reason for non-payment and may be able to provide a solution, taking into account the customer's circumstance.

All customers who have unpaid arrears of at least the annual capped charge and haven’t entered into a payment plan with Irish Water, will attract an automatic late payment penalty of 30 euro (1 adult household) or 60 euro (all other households) for each year that the charges remain unpaid. This will be added to bills three months following a year of non-payment.

    I hope this information helps.

    Kind regards,
    Allanah

    Thanks Allanah,

If I request my account to be closed in writing will this be complied with?

    FYI this is badly outdated

    Hi durtybit,

    Thanks for your patience.

If you are connected to the public water main for water and/or wastewater services, you are an Irish Water customer and are liable for water charges at your property.

If you're not an Irish Water customer, we would still suggest that you contact us on 1890 448 448 as a non-customer to update your account details and ensure that you do not receive any bills in error.

Closing accounts is not a request that we can facilitate.

    Kind regards,
    Amy.

Do you take requests to be disconnected from the mains water in order to facilitate closure ?

If I am a non customer why would I have an account?

Well you are if you're connected to the mains, which you obviously are when you enquired about being disconnected from said mains.

    Thanks Niamh,
    Can you answer the query:

Do you take requests to be disconnected from the mains water in order to facilitate closure ?

    Hi durtybit,

    Thank you for your query.

If you apply for a disconnection from the public mains and wasterwater mains, we would also advise updating your account to reflect these changes and ensure that you do not receive a bill in error. Updating your account will also ensure that you are eligible to apply for the Water Conservation Grant for the coming years.

Irish Water have drafted an interim policy on the discontinuation of domestic water supply which is currently awaiting approval from the Commission of Energy Regulation.

I hope you find this information helpful. Please feel free to contact us should you have any other queries.

    Kind regards,
    Niall
