There may be a thread already but I thought we could have a chat about what honeymoons people are planning. We have a month to play with so are looking into some travelling.

Fits has been really helpful with tips for Malaysia so I figured there would be other people with tips.

We went into trail finders but they are coming in about 1000 euro above what we can set up ourselves. That and we have an extra week with our plan. I know it's more hassle but I'm actually enjoying this bit of the wedding planning.

We are looking at a mixture between Bangkok, Malaysia and Bali. What are others planning?

Hello, we are planning on booking ours next month, just waiting on the flights to go live. I am planning on getting prices from trailfinders, travel agent and pricing it myself.

We are looking at Thailand,Bali,Dubai,Mexico and vegas..we will decide where next month. Im leaning towards Bangkok/phuket/phi phi or Mexico/vegas.

When are you planning on going on honeymoon?

We are May 2016. We have it mostly planned out now its just to put the dates together and start booking after watching for the next few weeks.

I'd love to do a stop over on the way to Bangkok but can't seem to figure out how to do this without going through a travel agent. I'll keep googling and I'm sure there's a way.

We are August 16. Planning to fly into Atlanta and then drive to North Carolina, South Carolina and on around the southern states to New Orleans. Then fly to Boston for the last week in Cape Cod!! That's the plan at the minute but OH keeps adding bits in - think he thinks I can just take 6 weeks off work lol. I have friends in Carolina who are giving me lots of info!

I was looking at bali, OH wasn't into it. We are heading to mauritius and dubai in 5 weeks time. Really looking forward to dubai though!

We are March 2016 and heading to orlando for 5 nights then driving to fort Lauderdale for a night then taking a cruise to Haiti, Jamaica and Mexico and finishing up with two nights in Miami booked with travelmood a few weeks ago have to say they were great got a better deal than I could manage on-line and personally feel a bit safer having someone else organise it all and have reps to deal with any issues :)

I'm getting more excited about the honeymoon. I keep adding in bits. Split Thailand and Malaysia into five nights and six nights. Bang on the month at the moment so no more added trips :)

This is where we want to go too for a few days after our wedding next year.
Been dying to go there for ages!

We are getting married November 2016 and planning a med cruise for July 2017 as the big honeymoon/our 10th anniversary/his 30th.

I like having it a good bit after our wedding so I still have something to look forward to after all the planning haha :)

We are going to Guatemala and Belize for 3 weeks - spent some time initially looking at lots of options and getting quotes from various agencies and in the end just decided to do it ourselves - working out cheaper overall and we are staying in some really great places. I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-)

I'm on my way back from our honeymoon now - 3 weeks split up between Bangkok - Hoi An - Ho Chi Minh City - Bangkok - kanchanaburi - Koh Tao and home.

Travel was split between flights, busses, minibus and boats.

Had a wonderful time and stayed in lovely places. Ate in fancy restaurants, street food & everything in between.

Are you now addicted to banh mi?
When I was in Vietnam I lived on those things :D

Wish I still had my honeymoon to look forward to!

We went to Japan which has always been a dream destination for both of us, it was unreal. We spent a night with monks in a Buddhist temple, got to see the shrine and torii gate at Miyajima which is now one of my favourite places in the world and visited maid and cat cafes in Tokyo amongst many other things.

    Take me back!!

Has anyone ever been to the Maldives? We never went on honeymoon (I know, I know!!) so for our anniversary next year (7 years married, 10 years together) the OH said we might go to the Maldives. Lads, I cant wait!

Would love to go to Japan. Missed an amazing opportunity in not visiting our mate when he lived there for 5 years. Desperate to go to Tokyo fish market.

Ate some nice bahn mi but am more of a noodle soup girl and got obsessed with bahn xeo. Need to see if Hanoi Hanoi on Capel st do a version to keep my addiction going.

The bombs in Bangkok and latest Indonesian flight crash are changing my plans. We are going to hold off booking anything

We're planning two weeks in Cancun, Mexico in the new year. We took all of our vacation time when we travelled home for the wedding. It's going to be an adults-only, all-inclusive luxury experience. It's not booked yet because I may need to be available for interviews in the UK in March, so we'll be booking in the next few weeks once I know the interview dates :).

We have booked a 18 night, Bangkok, Chaing Mai and Koh Sumai Honeymoon for July/August next year (belfast based travel agency but flying from Dublin) for just shy of £4000 all in including the flights, 4star accommodation, private transfers and internal flights.

We had priced around and nothing came close to this price

That's the realistic price with a travel agent. We are mixing it up between 4 and 5 star hotels and then air bnbs. We only have one internal flights and we are getting trains as we both want to do the travelling thing in Thailand. With a stopover in Dubai for three nights, two weeks in Bali, a week in Malaysia, three nights in Bangkok and three nights on Koh Sumai, it was coming to 4,200 euro for the two of us. That was a lot of work done ourselves however. It's great value I'm realising for 30 days /nights. Just over a month with all the travelling.

We don't have any activities on that so it'd add up quickly.

That sounds great, we are hoping to leave on August 1st for 14/15 days but will have to wait about 2 more weeks for flights to go live.

We were thinking bangkok& phuket or koh samui but because we will be stopping in Dubai i figured we could do 3 nights there then onto bangkok and possibly koh samui because the weather will be better there in August.

Also it'll be direct flights on the way over Dub-dubai, Dubai-Bangkok then Bangkok -koh samui :)

Just me maybe and I admire your energy to go long haul after the stress of a wedding!

But.... South of France for me. Easy to get to, very romantic, and great food and wine!

Best of luck to you all, enjoy whatever you decide. Some of your honeymoons sound so exotic!

We are going six weeks later. There's no way I'd be able for travelling without a break. Something to look forward to as well. We are going away for the weekend afterwards before we go back to work to a nice hotel.

We're going to Hong Kong for 3 nights then on to Koh Phangan for 9 nights (really excited about this hotel!) and then Koh Samui for 8 nights and we'll be there for Xmas day. We're going right after the wedding and I wouldn't have it any other way-I want to still be on that high after the wedding. I will be SO depressed going back to work in January though!

We have booked on the basis that if flight price changes by more than 5% we can change the flights or cancel the trip.

Hopefully won't happen as we are so excited about this trip.

Check out Chaka Travel- as I said they are flying us from Dublin so may be able to do something for you too

I have been in Koh Samui for Xmas and its fab. However they do Christmas on Christmas Eve. Everything is open as usual on Xmas Day but a lot of pubs/restaurants will close for private parties. If you haven't anything planned it may be worth checking out a few recommended places and seeing if you can book a table.

We just got married two weeks ago and are heading on Honeymoon next weekend to Cape Cod and New England. Cant wait, we have a cottage on the beach on the Cape for a week followed by luxury hotels in Nantucket, Newport RI and Boston for a second week.

We booked it all ourselves and it has worked out much cheaper than what we were quoted by Trailfinders but the lady we dealt with said that was because they have limited enough accomodation options in that part of the world. In places like the Seychelles, Maldives etc that are more aimed at honeymoons, we would have had a lot more to choose from. If you have time and patience to go digging for your own accom options it can pay dividends.

Book directly with Etihad and get a free stop in Abu Dhabi for up to 3 days, reduced rate in their top hotels. On the way home it's a lovely stop. Have done it twice. Once transferred to Dubai and the second time stayed in Abu Dhabi.

Stayed in the towers, beautiful hotel, absolute luxury, the most amazing breakfast I have ever come across..... And I am all about food! For three nights including breakfast it worked out about 300euro for 2! Breakfast alone was 50€pp....

Emirates have their stop in Dubai.

Yeah that could work. The big problem is other airlines are a lot cheaper. Might try Ethihad as emigerates are 400pp difference

Ive actually never been, really looking forward to it. We do a bit of sailing so might try and rent a boat for a day or at least get on a harbour sail.
Neither of us are great sun holiday/resort people so we decided we would prefer to be under our own steam rather than a package with a holiday agency etc. e have rented a car for the two weeks and it just means if we get bored of beaches and seafood (highly unlikely!) we can visit cities, towns and islands and explore somewhere different without having to adhere to organised excursions. Really looking forward to it now!

Its a good time to buy Malaysian ringgits with current instability. 1 euro was about 4 rinngits when we were there, now its almost 5.

Never been to Norway, but just so you know, Sweden is cheaper, and Finland cheaper again ;) I have done all of the above. Best chance of clear weather for northern lights is around March.

Has anyone ever booked with or dealt with Tropical Sky?

The guy I'm dealing with just isn't listening to me at all. Checking over the details on the invoice he sent earlier and 2 of the flights in the middle of the flights details were for Oct 2015!!(were going in Aug 2016) in my over active imagination I have visions of us stranded in Bangkok with no flights :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,691 ✭✭✭michellie

So i've now been dealing with a really great girl in Trailfinders the past few days now and she has given us a great quote, great flight times and hotels. She's really been really attentive and listened to exactly what we wanted and I'm thrilled with it, I couldn't have done it for this Price myself. Even got a discount on private transfers to the airport(no waiting on coaches yay!) Think we will be booking soon. :)

    Chaweng beach

Chaweng beach has changed so much since I first went there 20 years ago. There were no paths, dirt tracks, little stalls selling knick knacks, little bars you could stop off as you walked up the beach. Completely different now. The main street is mcdonalds, spas etc. The market stalls are pushed right out. Beach is still gorgeous though.

There is an Irish Pub (name escapes me) food is good and they show the games (just in case the OH is having withdrawal). Take a trip to Fishermans Village which is where we stayed the last time. Lots of bars and restaurants and great just for a wander and a stop off at a different bar!
