    Hi folks,

Can anybody suggest a company to replace an engine in a 2004 Nissan March.

I am aware of IVI in Dublin. I rang them and they are looking for €1350 to supply and fit. I do not know if this is a good price or not for the job although I have heard they are a good company.

Would be handy to ring one or two others to get a comparison.

    Many thanks !

For supply and fit of an engine that's a good price. If I remember correctly IVI will have serviced and chenged belts etc. with a warranty.

2004 nissan March asking price €3000 probably will sell for less probably for €2500

Putting €1350 into that age car is marginal unless its very low milage and you bought it new so know its history or some such factor
You might buy a 2004 Nissan March car for €1500 soon as the second hand price of cars falls through the floor because the propblems to get insurance for cars 15 years old .
Then the other engineless 2004 March can be used for spare parts
Nissans standard manual gear boxxes are flaky .
The word is they often need to be replaced or reconditioned at ten years old and above . However the Japanese and Nissan seems to make bullet proff automatic gear boxxes that run forever as long as you replace the gear box oil to maintinance shedules
However automatics often cause 30% increase in fuel consumption .

    just saying

It's worth €0 without an engine, it's worth €2500ish with an engine. IVI know Japanese import engines and give a warranty. I wouldn't say it's outrageous.

All good points. It's her car though and she is sentimental to it.we actually had a buyer for it yesterday but she pulled out.

The car is very clean and low mileage so I don't mind to pay for a new engine. I figure it's worth spending the money and running it for another few years.

It is an automatic as it happens.

The new engine might not be low mileage, still it's guaranteed so will be replaced if it's bad. But if the rest of the car is good and you plan on keeping it you may as well stick a new engine in, but it might be a good idea to have a mechanic give it a through going over before investing in the engine in case there's another nasty surprise.

While €1350 might seem alot of money to spend on a car of that age and value, I think it's money worth spending if the car is in otherwise good shape and going to be kept for another few years. You would have to spend more than that on a replacement car and your buying the unknown.

    Hi Tzardine,

could you please tell us why the engine has failed? 2004 Nissan is fairly good. I am planning to buy an jap imported micra auto from dealer and wondering if the engine would fail? how many miles did it run before it failed?

your suggestions would save me from buying a wrong car.. please advice.
