Catch 22 - Experience! Where do I start?

    I'm a 20 year old male, 0 qualifications and 0 work experience.

For the last 3 years, I'v been buying/selling car parts myself.... I'v never stood in a dole queue (Even though the option was there) Which I'm proud of. I have very little expenses (Still live at home) so I made enough to keep me happy but it's getting tiresome now and I need to grow up! :)

I simply couldn't decide where to go career wise, hence why I didn't go to college after school. Thinking I'd take a year to decide, Which then became two.

I'v narrowed it down to somewhere within retail, Either in the motor trade or electronics. (The likes of a phone store)

Now, Problem is I have no actual qualifications/experience (None that I can put to paper at least) to put on a CV, So why would they even take a luck at me?

How do I get an employer to give me a chance as most applications need a CV and well mine would be very bare.

All help and advise welcome. :)

Have you applied for any jobs?

And do you have a c.v. that reflects that you have been self employed the past two years?

  • Why not do something like throw a CV into all your local motor factors, highlight your experience of buying and selling car parts, and see where it gets you?

Ex Electronic trade retail manager. I never once looked at someone's quals, work experience was a different story. I could tell within 3 minutes of meeting you if you were going to get the job, it's all about how you put yourself across.

It's not the most rewarding job and expect to deal with a huge amount of BS. I'd approach somewhere when they're hiring and suggest you come in for a couple of shifts unpaid. Sell stuff - job's yours. Got my first job selling computers when I was 17. Got approached by a customer is a busy shop as I was suited and booted for the interview and sold them £2K of kit. Was pretty confident going into that interview ;)

Make sure you're suited and booted for retail interviews. Retail managers are a funny breed.

Get registered for social welfare, you will need money for interview expenses (clothes, travelling to and from etc.). Forget 'pride'.
