Majors (Easy or Hard courses) - A great year ?

I've been watching majors a good while.

But - I think this season has been one of the best ever.

For (perhaps) too long, we became too dependant on Tiger and a couple of other pros providing the show. (Phil - Ernie)

But this season - the whole Day - Sp(ie)th - Mcilroy - Johnson - and Dustin Johnson season has been fascinating.

Yes it seems to be the same guys all the time, but in every event we have had a new guys in the mix like - Jones , Dunne , Matsuyama, Finau.

For all the controversy, I loved all 3 US major courses, I know this is a personal taste (I hate basic parkland course) - For me the worst course on the major circuit this year was perhaps St. Andrews, says it all .

We all know Rory is the best striker of the ball in the world - but as hackers on here , are we beginning to see that, to be the best at golf , it takes desire and a will. Rory wants "to have a life where golf is not everything".

There are a lot of people in golf, and in sport, who have often fallen for , well he was the best, but "was into other things".

That is fine - But, I'm watching this lad Spieth more and more and Day - and if you think these guys are going to be overcome easy - best of luck with that

Anyway - what a year for majors ?

Yip, fascinating year to come too. A year or two ago all you could see was McElroy domination. Now there are some others in the mix that are savage competitors and will really put it up to Rory . I would feel that if Rory wants to win more majors he needs to develop a bit of the tiger of old attitude . Ie single bloody mindedness , 110 per cent commitment , become a bit more of a dick ( in as good a way as possible)
In his Thursday round with spieth this week it was all chat, back slaps , great shot etc. Maybe a bit more edge from Rory would be no bad thing!

I don't think he has to lose the 'nice guy' approach to win tournaments, he just has to have his A game out. Once he gets into contention, he becomes a completely different animal anyway; have we all forgotten the focus he showed to win the Open and the PGA last year?

As for the courses, I will never be persuaded to the view that Chambers Bay was a suitable venue. It failed on every level except the field that ended at the top and I put that down to the fact that it was a major.

The course was exactly what it looked like; a gravel quarry turned into a golf course and it looked like it was done on the cheap too. If any of us had to play on greens like that on our home courses, we'd be up in arms.

Whistling Straits was a different story and I love St. Andrews and Augusta. I agree that a lot of the US parkland courses are incredibly boring and pretty interchangeable, but there's no mistaking WS or Augusta.

But great to see the new generation coming through and taking over. Even if Tiger ever gets back to his best, I doubt he'd be able to dominate this bunch.

I'll jump in with both feet and say that it has been a great year. I'm delighted that the Woods' era is over and that we have now a fresh young group who are all playing superb golf. It's hard to know who will win and it makes for interesting golf. I like the way they respect each other and that they also appreciate the crowd especially the youngsters.

It was a pity that Rory got injured but Johnson, Spieth and Day have been sensational and I have enjoyed every major this year.

Good year i reckon alright , Tigers dominance has been replaced by a few different players so instead of one lording it over all we have 4-5 realistic contenders for all the big comps . Although having said that i think speith will win a bucketful of majors . Day and mcilroy will win some too no doubt . Then next tier down has rose , dustin johnson , kaymer etc . Exciting times ahead .

Great year, and last Major won by nice guy in Jason Day.

From a spectator sport we never had it so interesting IMO.

We have group of 4-5 Young Players who I think are set to win plenty of Majors between them.

I am delighted Day won, he knocked on the door in a few majors the last year or two. Really meant a lot to him, and the manner in which he won it too, lads were chasing him but he still shot final day 5 under round with 7 birdies and 2 bogeys, so he wasn't playing overly conservative. But Spieths putting is unreal, great to watch.

I am probably in a minority here but I thought Chambers bay was good, it was different and players struggled but to me it makes a change to them burning up courses. St Andrews with the weather etc didn't live up to what it could have been.

There is a great crop of players going to be battling it out for the next few years, and exciting times for golf. Mcilroy, Day, Spieth, you've Rose, Bubba, Dustin etc too and up and coming improving players like Grace, Matsuyama, Casey coming back again.
