I use two pairs for the really cold and wet weather, Castelli Nano ones on first and then Neoprene ones on last works great for me. Wool socks too

I have a pair of grip grab arctic overshoes. Extremely warm and keep the feet dry too. Almost too warm some days.

I have BBB heavy duty overshoes for the very cold weather. I also have a pair of Shimano Tarmac H20 which I haven't wore yet but seem similar to the BBB pair but like I said I've yet to try them out in winter.

I've a pair of Goretex road shoes/boots. However I tend not to bother with them as they cover the ankle as well as foot, meaning they are a bit more cumbersome. Warmth is far more important than waterproofing and it's pretty much impossible to keep the water out on longer rides even when it's not very wet. The water can seep in from above, or via cleat holes (unless you try and bung them up, but that will still not prevent seepage from above). Hence warm overshoes tend to be the priority for me.

How are these as the bottom seems very exposed etc

Cheers lads for the suggestions and I'll be kept busy looking at these

For absolute warmth, not Pearl Izumi WxB - they are good for down to about zero in the dry. They are hardwearing, pretty waterproof and good for people with massive ankles ;)

i have goretex boots and on wet and cold days they are great. they dont get a massive amount of use but for the worst of the weather i prefer them to my various overshoe options

surprised at people going on about overshoes for warmth. don't rely on your overshoes for warmth. good pair of merino socks to keep the feet warm, then add the overshoes to keep the majority of the water out, never keep it all out. they'll add an additional bit of warmth, but would always look to socks first for the warmth. i wear the sames ones i used in sub zero temps snowboarding, and a light pair of overshoes, and never have cold feet. hands/head may be freezing but feet always toasty

What socks do you have? I bought a pair of Endura merino socks but notice no difference over any other pair of ordinary socks

honestly i couldn't tell you. i'll have a look at them to see if there is any sort of tag. but i have them about 10 years now, and they are as good as new. they are way thicker than a normal pair of socks. quiet coarse on the outside, smooth on the inside. i've seen some of the cycling brand merino socks, they look way mroe like normal cotton socks and can imagine they don't have the same warmth level.

mine look something liek this, but are probably a bit thicker

of the guys i ride with bought some proper socks on my advice and swears by them too. just for an n=2 example

I can get these locally. €23. If they kept my feet anyways warm it'd be the best €23 I'd ever spend. My feet were cold on Sunday morning last and I had my Endura Neoprene shoe covers on!!

as i said, they are not the same as mine so can't vouch for those exact ones but they are similar. worth a shot

think about it, snowboarders/skiers have to keep feet warm in light boots in far colder temps than most of us face on the bikes. if they can keep their feet warm we should be able to too
