This may be daft - excuse the nonsense if so!!!!

While this is subject to a sellers agreement, would it be possible, or has it been done whereby someone rented a car from a seller for a specific period and then returned it? This would be subject to payment of a fee of course ie rent. If someone wanted to buy in mean time, car would be made available and returned back to seller.

I know that it could be unlikely anyone would agree but it's where someone (me!!!) wants to drive a large engine petrol car but doesn't want to buy one due to family etc but wants to enjoy the experience again for a short while.
If renting, and not being the owner of the car, can insurance etc be arranged? The dealer, who has had such a car on his forecourt for some time without selling, gets some income from a car otherwise collecting dust! The car could be asking anywhere between 5-10k but be at least 12 years + old. Im thinking Merc cl500, BMW 840, jag xk, or some such.

As above, maybe crazy but curious all the same.
    Cheers

Very true wonski and I do follow that thread. I just can't go buying such machines, as much as I want to. If I do change now and buy, it has to be a "reasonably" sensible motor!!!!!

It is possible to rent from a dealer , you just need to talk to them.
i know someone who rented a people carrier off a independent garage for 6 weeks. he had to get insurance for the car himself.
I think the problem with a old car with a big engine is the tax. Chances are the car hasnt current tax.
Sure get the car for a weekend for a test drive , some dealers will do that for you.
Ive always wanted to get a big car for a test drive at a weekend and do the 32 counties in 24 hours .

The car would have to be taxed for a minimum of 511 plus wear and tear on tyres , bushes shocks , plus a rented luxury car will be worth less afterwards, plus it's not available-for sale while you're off swanning around the country, a dealer would need to be getting about € 2000 minimum ( for 1 month and maybe 2500 inc for two months)for each rental even on a 5 k barge.

Do you still want one for 2 k ? For a month

That solution does exist in spain.Prices looked ok .However it geared for long term purchase eg one or two year contracts or three year . They can arrange spainish insurance .They say pulling out of contract after one month is possible but not sure what penalty charges this makes or costs.
I have heard of Irish insurance for several weeks to drive spainish reg car for holiday time but often is third party only .Open drive wont do as technicaly your the owner of the car in that time . A mate of mine goes to spain 4 times every but the new insurance costs to switch between cars susch as his Irish car his spainish car means he just insures the spainish car now with spainish insurance The costs are €300 PA for the spainish car and its 3.5 liter engine

You could just more easily do rental .In winter non peak season in south spain car rental is dirt cheap . Two week winter holiday drive all of spain which is easy ten times bigger than Ireland . Lots of ski resorts to visit as well

Lots of solutions out there .My cousin often flys to USA and buys big Lincons there for $500 and drives for several weeks across the USA .Then he sells the things and flys home .
