Replace commuter wheels with Mavic CXP 22

I have a commuter bike with poor quality wheels, i have replaced a lot of spokes on the rear wheel. I was wondering if I could replace the rear wheel with a rear wheel I removed from the road bike. The road bike had Mavic CXP 22 rims with a ten speed cassette (the cassette was removed and reused elsewhere) whereas the commuter has a six speed cassette. Would the six speed fit the Mavics? The Mavics would be great for commuting and shouldn't give any problems with spokes snapping and hence would like to use them instead of having them lying in the attic.

Try the cassette, if it fits use the wheels, if not, don't.
