Quick question about carbon frame (Frame Cracked / Damaged or standard issue)

Qucik question for any carbon experts on here, the bike is a Giant TCR Advanced 2015 and when cleaning it today after a spin I noticed something didn't look right underneath the frame. I'm hoping for some good news as I absolutely love the bike but can anyone tell me is the frame cracked/chipped or is it ok.

I can upload more pictures now I've just got to get them off my phone. Just to add I've no idea how this happened, I've not crashed or dropped the bike.

My main concern is I'm doing it damage by riding it, there is a slight squeek when the pedal rotates and I'm concerned the frame is being damaged from the inside out.

Any info / advice would be appreciated

Just looks like the lacquer is chipped to me. The sqeek could be due to any number of reasons really. Dry bearings, dirt in the bearings, your pedals may need a little oil where the cleats lock in etc etc.

It looks like the BB shell was gouged. I'd be bringing that back to where ever you bought it and asking them to assess it and replace the frame if it's a case it was caused by who ever built up the bike when new.

Thanks for your reply, the thing is, I was actually in the store when it was opened out of the box and the pedals/cranks/bottom bracket were already built up when it was taken out of the box. (i presume by giant taiwan)

What do you think could have caused it? Put together incorrectly or something different

I really hope your right, at first I thought this but I have since shown someone else and it led me to posting my concern on here.

If the lacquer is chipped, what would cause this and is it safe to ride?

Maybe you could tell us a bit more about background here. Has the bottom bracket been replaced recently? As in, did you only notice the damage after the replacement?

Lacquer is lacquer mate wouldn't be too worried about it. But I just read your reply about the shop so I assume it's relatively new. In which case just take it back to the shop and see what they say about it. I was being a bit cavalier about it cause I thought it was a bike that had been around the block and had plenty of work done on it. But if it's new then I wouldn't be happy tbh!

The only thing I'd be worried about with lacquer chipping is that cracks can form in the lacquer around the chipped area which can then spread. In other words the lacquer chip can get bigger.

Yes the bottom bracket was replaced roughly 2 months ago, I probably should have stated that, however after the replacement I didn't notice any issues.

Saying that though, if this could have been caused by a tool or malfunction when replacing the bottom bracket I would be interested to know.
