Doogee X5 5" 3G Smartphone only €54 (+ duty). Great value for a 720p IPS display, Quad core cpu & 1gb ram. Comes with the latest version of Android. The camera will inevitably be rubbish, but I doubt you'll find a better one at this price point.

Available in black or white from all good Chinese sites. Full specs in the link below.

Yes, but it's €36 more, lacks dual sim & is locked to Vodafone.

After VAT, it's hardly worth the trouble.

IF you get caught for vat it'll come to €73 (23% + €7 handling fee), which is still €17 cheaper, for an unlocked dual sim phone. It might not be worth it to you, but it could suit someone else needs.

and how about if it arrives dead? Like so many of these cheap Chinese phones, it will die after half a year anyway. Remember that huge thread for the €60 phone that everyone bought? Half the phones died soon after.

Also, you can pretty much guarantee you will be charged customs.

These are quite a reputable phone manufacturer. Your ignorance is unbelievable. Just because this isn't some named branded phone sold to you at jacked up prices in the West doesn't automatically make it shady. They are coming from a region of the world which is far more technically savvy for the most part than most people in Ireland. Have a look in the China phone thread on the phone forum and people have been successfully buying phones from China with great success. It does require a little research on the consumers part but many Chinese phones now make top 10 lists on tech blogs, websites and end of year lists.

I seriously doubt half of them died. DOA is a risk for buying anything electronic from China. It's a risk you take in order to benefit from cheaper goods. There are several Chinese phones on the go in my house, including my Oneplus One a much more significant gamble of €365 on a Chinese startup. None have failed due to mechanical failure. One 'failed' after ~12 months when it was dropped on concrete and the screen smashed to smithereens, but that was hardly the phones fault.

Did you not read the thread on the BA forum? It was a complete mess. I'm sure others who owned the phone can chime in.

This looks like a decent deal. Not everyone wants to have a phone covered in Vodafone logos. Not sure why it's being pushed so much constantly the last few weeks.
It's decent spec, not going to blow anything away.

Some great Chinese phones out for the 100+ mark these days, really competitive.

.... can you be a bit more specific - which thread? Which phone?

Anecdotal i know, but I haven't seen one bit of a problem with the 4 sub E100 phones (incl Vat) I've brought from China bar the screen cracking in two (operator handling errors), and dropping mine in a tub of paint as well, (worked fine after a wash).
The last phone i bought in Ireland cost me E480 with no great difference bar camera quality and a well known brand name. (i cracked the "gorilla glass" in two days with a one foot drop from couch to a carpet.)

    Well worth a punt IMO.

While this is a great price, what I find really amazing is that according to Gizchina this is the more expensive of two models.

In addition to the MT6580 chipset, Doogee will also launch a low-cost version with Mediatek MT6735 processor too, however pricing of this model hasn’t been announced.

So this isn't even the "low-cost" version. There's a very similar, even cheaper one to come. Happy days for bargain hunters. :D

This is great! I'm going to buy one of these for my mate.

Let me explain, my mate smashed his new phone recently, it was a 5.5" screen, 128GB, superfast chip, fingerprint scanner - it was an iPhone 6 Plus. The best device and quality money can buy today in the phone handset space.

I'm going to get him one of these as a joke, I hope he finds it funny.

He will, he must have a sense of humour if he buys Iphones...

I had the dodgee d800 earlier this year. Great spec but the battery was a piece of crap. After 6 months it was only giving me about 8 hours with minimal use.
The battery was quoted as 2000mAh but gave nothing near that in independent reviews and whilst it was ok at the start, progressively got worse and worse at holding charge. And yes, I did recalibrate.

The build quality was muck too. After about a month the micro usb port went funny and would only charge when the cable was inserted about halfway in.

Some day, if you wish hard enough, you might be able to afford one. Then, and only then, will you realise how phones should be made.

Seriously? I can get an I(diot)Phone free on contract. Maybe someday, if you wish hard enough you too might be able to afford a cheap Chinese phone and not be tied to a contract :)

I agree with you however, the iPhone is the bestest device ever. Not 1 iPhone ever has had a problem, that camera prob on the 6 is intentional didn't you know.
