Personally I wouldn't use pigeons to introduce a pup to picking cold game. Their feathers are very loose and come off rather easily when they come into contact with the dogs sticky tongue, this is irritating for the young dog and can be off putting. Just my opinion but I rather put a request out for someone who may have a cold pheasant.

Thanks - he's had pheasant and rabbit just trying to get him on new things and as its a busy time of the year for many on pigeon I thought someone might have a few spare.

Don't use pigeons too much feathers and fluff the dogs don't like them in their mouth.

If you want to try pigeons then try pigeons. Some dogs don't like them, others aren't bothered by them, mine has no problem retrieving them.
I'll see if I can get you a few during the week or next weekend.

I probably have a frozen one in the freezer if one is enough.

Hi Bogwoppit - I'm in no rush, but I'd happily take frozen if you have one to hand.

As to wether he'll pick them or not - I always start with them in an old pair of tights so as not to upset the dog. I've trained one to trial now so not a complete newbie.
