This is all a bit mad and Big Brother like. I dont think you'd see the likes of this even in America where they spy on their people a lot.

Can any legal sorts on here say if this is a breach of any invasion of privacy?

    http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/news/exclusive-now-the-taxman-is-spying-on-your-credit-card-spending-31453072.html

The data is among indicators used by the taxman to gauge whether a person is living beyond their disclosed means, a sign they may not be declaring all of their taxable income.

Credit and debit card information is also being used to help determine whether businesses offering services online are tax compliant.

Seemingly, a brow beaten people will accept anything.

FG/Labour brought this in in 2013 afaik.

I wonder will they investigate the spending on government credit cards by various ministers etc?

Does Debit Cards that include online debit cards from the likes of Skrill / Moneybookers?

I know a few people who give such cards to students and throw a few quid on them when they are stuck.

The article's headline gives the impression it's about looking at what you buy. But, if you read the article, it's actually about people who sell stuff and receive payment by credit card.

    Typical Indo sloppyness.

But yes, our government can look at your personal data without a warrant, if they have a suspicion you're up to something.

    Is this even new?

Anytime I've opened a bank account, I've had to inform the bank of my PPS number. I assumed Revenue were already mining this information. It's about time they did.
