How can I tell if my television has saorview?

Excuse me but I am not very knowledgeable in this area. I bought a Bush TV from Argos three years ago and I don't know if it has saorview on it as I have UPC with those channels on it anyway, so I never checked it. I was considering getting rid of UPC and getting a Free-View dish so I will not have the saorview channels anymore. So is there a way I can I tell if my television has saorview?

    Check here http://www.saorview.ie/product/bush/
or post your model number and someone here might know the particular one.

I am nearly positive that it is the Bush 24' HD Ready LED TV/DVD Combi that is still there that I bought three years ago. I checked the argos website and it says that it has a Saorview digital tuner, what ever that means.

Assuming that it’s still the same TV in Argos, if you want to use Saorview you will need to connect an aerial to the coaxial socket on the back of the TV. Depending on the signal strength in your area this may be an indoor or outdoor aerial (mine is in the attic). You will have to retune the TV – this should be a menu option and you will need to select DTV or Saorview – again this varies from TV to TV.

However, as Gerry said above you should try to find the model number of the TV (it might be on the label on the back) and check the Saorview site or check the manual if you still have it before you go to the trouble of buying an aerial. Hope that helps

And remember if it is not Saorview compatible you are within your rights to take it back as not fit for purpose (receiving TV in Ireland) under the Sale of Goods Act.

Not true, esp if the TV was specifically advertised as not SAORVIEW compatible.

The TV has been fit for the OP's purpose (receiving UPC service) for the past three years, the OP now wants to change the "purpose" of the TV.

Yes, if that disclaimer were made, the set would not be returnable. But it has to be explicit, saying nothing would not count. Any set sold since the saorview spec was finalised and without such a disclaimer can be returned as the purpose of a TV is to receive off air transmissions in the country it is sold in. The fact that it can receive off cable is irreverent.
Packaging not needed either. There have been several successful cases mentioned on these forums in the past.
No doubt Watty will be along in due course to verify this.

Put a piece of wire, like 10 cm of straight coat-hanger wire, onto the end of an aerial extension cable, into the aerial socket and try and do a digital tune (Menu etc.) and see what happens. If you get anything, even a blocky picture, then you will know.

Depends on how strong your signal is, but you should get something. If you get sound and no picture, then you have a Mpeg2 tuner rather than Mpeg4. A small internal aerial would be better.
