in the market for a new twin turner linuz box, I previusly had a Vu Duo Clone but this failed and I cant get it going again. Red light issue.

I have been looking for an alternative box to use now, I have setup an Amiko triple turner for a friend, but would like to know what other options I have in the dual turner range.

I would like it to be stable, record and have a nice menu system and most of all STABLE

any ideas what the best box out there thanks

HI ,. just got the Duo 2 but it is my first system and I am lost with it all.
Does anyone know of any good tutorials on these Linux based systems? Id go so far as to say I would go on a course to try and get the most from my system.
Can anyone recommend a good site. World of Satellite and Vu Community are not the easiest to learn from.
    Thanks

rusty, the best way to learn how to use the duo 2 is experiment with a backup image first, a back up image will have all the usaul bits installed so you can dabble. you dont say if you are multisat, motorised or just fixed on 28 east.

go to linuxsat support and have a good read

try this one first but do read a bit as well

What exactly are you trying to achieve as I might be able to help you. Personally I found it easy enough to navigate through the menus but some stuff I rather do with Telnet saves using the remote.

If its something you might need to PM me with feel free

I got mine from hm sat shop de
Took about 5 days cost €406 with a dual s2 tuner and a T2 terrestial tuner
Came with a Vu factory image installed
I installed a 500GB hard disc from an old sky box & flashed the vix team image
I was also able to load my channel list from my amiko alien 2 into the duo without issue

I've setup the Gigablue quad plus for my parents and it seems to be running flawlessly.

It is running OpenVix and was easy to setup.

Just install the latest image from the world of satellite website.

You'll only need two plugins that will be both preinstalled.

CrossEpg - Allows 7 day EPG on satellite

AutoBouquetMaker - Ensures that channel lineup always matches Sky/Freesat etc. and avoids the need for retunes

I was about to buy it from here
    http://www.satshop.tv/GigaBlue-HD-Qu...-HDTV-Receiver

but ended up getting second hand one on donedeal for about half the price.
I think I just got lucky as it was as new.

I installed a 1TB HDD myself and added a third terrestrial tuner, both of which were very easy to do.

You need to consider hardware and software when you are buying.
The Amiko Alien triple tuner is a little weak on hardware.
The OS3 has decent hardware but OpenATV still seems to have a lot of bugs (for the UK/Irish market anyway). I'm sure they will eventually be resolved.

OpenVix is specifically targeting the UK/Irish market so is less likely to have any bugs for the things we are likely to use.
