iPhone/computer/music questions

    Hi, newbie again....

Thinking of how I might be able to use my iPhone on my new bike. Was thinking maybe one ear bud in only, for safety, but that means getting a waterproof cover for the iPhone.

Do ye guys use mounts for phones? Bluetooth speakers (I'll be cycling alone for the most part so noise solution is not an issue)??

I was thinking the iPhone, if mounted, would be a decent (i.e. free) alternative to getting a cycle computer.

Do any of you use a neat waterproof bag for keeping things like phones?

Are those arm band holders for phones water proof? I thought that if they were, I could just use the phone speaker for music/podcasts if the phone was up near the top of my arm.

    All advice gratefully received, thanks.

That's exactly what I'm looking for! Can you run it off a dynamo? :)

Just put it on shuffle and put it in the back pocket of your jersey. Put the cable up inside the jersey. I normally use one bud which leaves an ear free, can be easily taken out approaching junctions etc. I use Map my Ride and a summary comes through the headphones after every segment so you don't really need a seperate computer.

Great, thanks. That sounds like a good option. No need to buy anything that I don't already have. Do you put the phone into a ziplock bag to keep it dry?

You could get a quadlock phone mount, very secure and has a waterproof cover also. Pair that up with a Wahoo cadence and speed Bluetooth 4 sensor (and heart rate monitor) and you have a pretty good setup with some useful live info using free Wahoo app or Strava and probably many others. Bluetooth earbuds would be a nice addition, I just use regular ones with inline remote for volume/skipping wired through jersey. Negatives with this setup are headphone jack on phone is covered when waterproof cover is on and you'll be limited to about 3-4 hours battery life with live monitoring active.

If it's wet I normally have a rain jacket on which takes care of that. I have a samsung and if it gets a bit damp the touch screen is a little unresponsive for a short while but otherwise ok. An iphone may be different and a waterproof bag of some kind may be needed.

I use a Wahoo RFLKT on an out-front mount. It's a remote display for my iPhone connected over Bluetooth. It displays the data from Strava (speed, cadence, heart rate etc.) and currently playing music, while the phone sits safe and dry in my pocket or saddle bag.
