ive been thinking for a while about buying a hedgecutter, the problem is I don't know the first thing about them. Il be putting it on a mf 398 so don't want something too heavy. I be no experience using one so want something simple and I'm a miserable fecker so want something cheap. If anyone knows about them, what to look out for and what to avoid. And most importantly what would I need to be spending to get something half decent.

Avoid anything cheap. Nothing less than 5k. Ideally nearer 7 or 8 for a long lasting job. Spend now, or spend later, either way they cost money. McConnell PA93 hi power, something like that.
