Go to motortax.ie and tax it. You don't need the log book. Your details will be there.

No nct, car could get impounded because it's out so long. It may not even pass the test.

No, you are not OK to drive until you have NCT.
It's illegal to do so, you might get fined for it and it might cause your insurer to reject to pay for the claim or request money back from you if they have to pay to third party for damage you cause.
    That's the official version.

In reality you most likely might get away with as system is faulty as you can't get NCT straight away, and gards do understand that.

Also if car is 2005 or older, then 1 year NCT cycle apply, and if you do it on 27th August, you will only get NCT valid until January 2016 (another fault with NCT system) so only just over 4 months.
F.e. if your last NCT due date was 2nd January 2015, then if you held off with the test until 3rd October 2015, yo will get a NCT valid until 2nd January 2017 so 15 months.

    Impossible to say.

If you have all the relevant docs (proof of nct and purchase) with you and dont act the magot / attract the guards attention it would take an unreasonably guard to follow it up

You do not need the Log book to tax the car, just call to your local tax office and tax it.

Have some proof of the NCT appointment with you should cover the other item.
