    Hi,
I have been told by the installer of my Geothermal heating system that I should not use Kingspan insulation for the floor, he says a lot of shrinkage happens over time in the kingspan insulation. Anyone know if this is true, the installer of the heating system is not selling me any insulation as he does not deal in it which made me take his word a bit more serious.

Hadn't heard of this myself. Was it just Kingspan as a brand or was he referring to a particular type of insulation?

There is a term 'off-gassing' whereby insulation performance degrades over time when it loses gas. Wouldn't have thought insulation would shrink because of this though.

    Did he recommend an alternative?

Yeah Kingspan tf70, he recommend quinntherm, ballytherm and xtratherm.

He said the Kingspan for the cavity and roof is fine, just stay away from the floor insulation they do

...the term 'Kingspan' is being used incorrectly here. What you're referring to is the PUR/PIR insulations - the EPS/XPS insulations are better for floor use (imho) - and yes, Kingspan sell that too - they call it Styrozone http://www.kingspaninsulation.ie/products/styrozone.aspx

At which point, you can buy EPS/XPS insulation from anyone - Kingspan included.

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Note if you go for eps ~0.4wmk territory will increase the insulation depth required.
