After two weeks of torture trying to make BT broadband work I gave up and cancelled the contract for two reasons. The average waiting time to BT faults India w as around 30 mins, with no sense of resolving a fault condition which was the following. Just' after the broadband was switched on, my phone rang, with massive noise, faint dial tone and no one there. The phone continued to ring repeatedly and I had to pull the plug out of the wall. The next day, with all router equipment removed, the phone with and without filter worked sometimes, but next day the fault was back, and the phone rang throughout the night .This was particularly disturbing as a friend recently had a stroke and could be calling with a medical emergency at any time.
To cut to the chase, they blamed it on my equipment, which I had replaced, with the same result, an when I asked them to terminate the contract and take broadband away, all returned to normal on my phone. The irony is they want me return the equipment to them and fill in a form On Line!

My guess is a bad cabling job at the exchange.

Thanks for your interesting reply, of course they, BT never again, would not admit such a thing, but constantly threaten an engineers visit at £130.
Sadly it means my only recourse is to sharpen the quill pen at this Not Spot.
Having checked with the guy in the nearby computer shop re his experience with Sat Broadband, he packed it all in with a speed UpTo 2 Mbits on a good day.
EE mobile postcode checker is the same result one year on , and is 2G Outside the house.
Fibre is available less than a mile away on the main Nearly rd, but the man up the pole tells me they want £50k to bring it my direction.

Broadband gone but phone fault still appears during rain? One week on, what have they done.
