Changing car seats

Lads, how difficult would it be to change a seat from one car into another?

EG, would it be possible to transfer a seat from a Nissan into a Mazda or a Ford into a Toyota etc etc?

I'm guessing there would be a myriad of difficulties with such a venture?

    Has it got airbags?

PITA, airbag connectors and different floor fittings being two big obstacles.

Do most seats these days have airbags? The floor fittings is what I figured would be the biggest problem

    What's PITA?

    Pain in the Ass :D

Yeah most seats would have side airbags, the more up to date cars would have occupancy sensors etc.

    :pac:

Sounds like a big job. Is there anywhere that'd do such a modification if you brought them the parts?

Im sure there is, wouldn't know of any though. Why do you want to change the seats ?

I've a phukked up back mate. Good few surgeries etc. Most car seats leave me in agony. Recently got an old 626 and its the same deal. (You never know after a few minutes test drive). There's only a couple of car seats that are sound for my damn mess of a back.

I just got to wondering if I could fit a seat into a car and when that car eventually craps out, I could take out the seat and fit it into the next one! Sounds a bit far fetched but i'm kind of desperate

As long as it's like for like it's not a major deal.
Moving seat from K11 to K11, easy

Moving from one model to another, difficult.
Fittings are different and must be adjusted or changed, the electronics in the chair needs to be changed etc.

Biko do you know of anywhere that might do such mods?

Not really. It might involve both welding and electronics so you'd have to ring around locally wherever you are located.

You can google the 626 seat and also a seat from the other car and get the info that way.

Would something like the above be more suitable Jesus.

Dunno about the cost or anything, but m much easier to switch between cars if it works

The big problem is safety, your seatbelt alignment etc would be all wrong if you just threw in a seat from a different car. I don't think its worth pursuing really unless you plan on fitting a 6 point harness and bucket seat :D

Have a look online as someone may have found a good match. A few guys in the UK have put recaros from imprezas into a hilux with very little modifications. Granted it's an older vehicle with no airbag to worry about.

Thanks for the advice Gentlemen. I think changing seats is a non runner.

Cletus I might tip on in to that fella next week and check it out

Does the 626 have side airbags? It would be written in the seat.

I think a 626 is too old for side airbags. It does have an occupancy sensor, but google isn't showing any pictures of seat/side airbags.

I think you'd need custom rails made up for swapping the seat though.

Our 99 and 01 323 had side airbags

Ah here, its not an easy to insure 04 focus without even ABS as standard. An uninsurable 1998 626 glx had 4 airbags and abs as standard :-) 40 mpg and reclining rear seats in the estate
