Bottom Entry Fill Valve

Need to replace a bottom entry fill valve, it has a 1" shaft. Searching online replacements all have a 1/2" or 3/8" shaft. Is a 1" shaft unusual? And will a smaller shaft size fit the cistern anyway with a new seal? (obviously will have to connect it to the water supply too).

It's a small cistern too so the valves with 9" arms I've found in shops won't fit into it.

I have never seen a 1" diameter domestic wc cistern filling valve, are you certain that you have measured the diameter correctly.
Can you post up a photograph of inside the cistern and the filler connector underneath for clarification.
My recommendation for replacement of these valves is always the Fluidmaster Pro45 B, best on the market.
