    Lads,

I originally posted this in the HTPC section but not getting any replies so hoping I might have better luck here. I'm in the middle of upgrading the TV server for the house. Looking to save a few shillings while I'm at it. Am I correct in assuming that Saorview is only broadcasting on 2 muxes at present? Is there any plans in the pipeline to add any more?

If it's a case of just the 2 muxes, will I be ok with a dual DVB-T/T2 tuner card to serve the whole house? IE can say 4 tvs view the whole spectrum of channels on something like tvheadend from the one card as I only need it to be connected to the two muxes?

The choice is between a dual or quad tuner and the difference in price is about €100. It's be nice to put the €100 towards something else if I can

I think saorview is a DVB-T/MPEG-4 HD so you would only need a DVB-T tuner. You would need a DVB-T2 tuner for freeview in the UK.

What you would beed is a dual or twin tuner so one tuner for each mux. Of course if more muxes are added in the futer, more tuners are needed if all a channel from each mux is to be watched at thte same time

Thanks for the quick reply. Yeah the tuner cards for PC s these days are all DVB-T/T2, so will just be getting T2 by default.

I thought all I'd need would be the 2 tuners to get everything at the same time, but just wanted to confirm. Thanks for the info.

You will need a twin/dual tuner if you want to record one, watch another especially if they are on separate mux frequencies.

Your better off with a card rather than a stick. The PlayTV modules can also be picked up quite cheaply. They are dual tuners.

    Thanks lads.

I'm planning on putting in a TBS Moi pro streaming server running tvheadend. Was going to spec it up with one quad DVB-S/S2 pci-e card and one dual or quad DVB-T/T2 card. Idea is that this would then act as a server for the whole house via Ethernet and localised Kodi clients.

What I was trying to figure out with the DVB-T card is that if one tuner is tuned to one mux and the other is tuned to the second mux, does this then mean that any tv in the house will be able to watch/record any of the channels on the two muxes.

I think that this is the case and was going to go for the dual tuner as it was a 100 EUR cheaper.

tvheadend should be able to handle that but it may have a limitation so you should look into that

Thanks for the advice. I might head over to their forum now and ask a few questions there to make sure the software isn't limited in anyway.

Just google "tvheadend multiple tuners", hte answers suggest it will handle it no problem
