hi all I own a 92 Opel corsa 1.5d van
And as it is so old I could not get private insurance for it and my only 21.
So I got commerical insurance as it was cheap I told axa I worked In a factory which I kinda do and I got my cover.

Now my question is how do I tax it.
It's my only form of transport and axa told my my policy also has social and demestic and I have no vat number.

I want to tax it privately as I will be driving it all the time so what do I do ????

As you have given false or misleading information to Axa you will not be covered in the event of any claim. I reckon you have not told us the whole story that you gave them. Just working in a factory or "kinda working in a factory" does not entitle anyone to get commercial insurance.

I didn't give any false info I just told them I'm a factory worker which I am and told them I help my father out to move kitchen units and stuff they had no problem with that

    You can tax online.

All they are interested in is getting as much money as they can.

They are screwing anyone with a commercial but want them to tax private as there is more money.

    Go ahead you can.

So just to make it clear to me :P

It's possable in Ireland to tax a van which is insured with a commercial policy privately and they ar ok with that

You will make a declaration to the motor tax office as to the use of the van, if you satisfy the man behind the desk, you will tax it accordingly.

You may tax private if you want to.

Otherwise you will need to be able to show documents stating needed for work or farm or business.

This is the biggest problem for you. To make sure your insurance is valid, all my quotes this year while renewing my commercial insurance on the jeep had a condition that the jeep was actually taxed commercially. If I taxed it privately, I was to take out private insurance.

Try to tax it commercially and put down your PPS number instead of a VAT number. I have read on here that it works.

    Exactly my point

My first insurance was equivalent of €2000 on a moped. I either payed it or I didnt drive

I take your point about being a '92 but some insurers still gave a quote

Now you're unsure if you can tax it and unsure if you're even covered with the policy
